BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's soccer team bounced back from a tough mid-week loss to Shenandoah to take a hard-fought 1-0 victory Saturday afternoon over Randolph College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

The visiting WildCats controlled play for much of the first half with an 11-2 advantage in shots.

While the Eagles were unable to put a shot on goal in the opening half, Bridgewater keeper Kevin Morris was busy at the other end as he turned away five shots on goal to keep the game scoreless after 45 minutes.

The second half was a different story as the Eagles began to penetrate the WildCats defense and matched the visitors shot-for-shot.

In the 60th minute, Bridgewater earned a corner kick and took advantage of the opportunity. Adrian Zamora sent the ball into the box where Alex Farrington took a shot that was blocked by a defender. The ball rolled back out toward Zamora and he booted a low shot to beat keeper CJ Stevens for the game's lone goal.

Each team had several scoring chances in the final 30 minutes, but Morris and Stevens were up to the challenge.

Bridgewater had two strong chances to extend its lead. The first came in the 73rd minute when the Eagles sent a pass from the right side into the box. Adam Weisenborn headed the ball toward goal, but Stevens made a diving save to deny the Eagles.

In the 86th minute, Cole Georges ripped a shot from 20 yards out, but Stevens made a leaping save and re-directed the shot over the crossbar and out of play to keep the margin at one goal.

Randolph finished with a 26-14 advantage in shots, but the margin was just 15-12 in the second half. The WildCats took four corner kicks while the Eagles had four.

Morris was solid in goal for the Eagles and finished the day with 11 saves. Stevens recorded four saves, all in the second half, for the WildCats.

With the win, Bridgewater improved to 5-9 overall and 4-3 in the ODAC. Randolph dropped to 5-4-3 overall and 2-2-2 in conference play.

The Eagles return to action Friday evening when they travel to Hampden-Sydney College to meet the Tigers. Game time is 7 p.m.
