Football Looks to Get Back On Track Against Washington and Lee

VIDEO PREVIEW FOR MOBILE DEVICES

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater Eagles football team will look to get off of the schneid this weekend when it hosts Washington and Lee for a Homecoming weekend clash at the Jopson Athletic Complex.

Bridgewater backs into this weekend's affair off of back-to-back losses. The Eagles fell last weekend by a 35-28 tally in a back-and-forth affair at Guilford.

Washington and Lee enters Saturday's game off of a big victory over perennial conference power Randolph-Macon. The win for the Generals was their first of the season after they opened the year on a five-game skid.

A year ago, a reeling Bridgewater football team traveled to Lexington hoping to get back on track and end a three-game losing streak. Instead, the Eagles returned to the Bridgewater campus with one of their worst defeats in a number of years in a 42-13 loss to the Generals.

This season, both teams are in need of a minor miracle to find themselves back in the thick of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title hunt as the two squads enter this afternoon's matchup with 1-2 records in league play.

After a multi-year run as one of the perennial challengers for the league title, Washington and Lee has stepped back as its looked to replace a number of key contributors from last year's squad.

Charlie Nelson was thrust into the starting role over the final two games a year ago and is the starter for the Generals as a sophomore. Nelson is completing just 47% of his passes on the year.

Marshall Hollerith continues to put up solid numbers on the ground. Hollerith rushed for three scores in last year's win over the Eagles and is averaging 83 yards per game this season.

Bridgewater is still using a two-quarterback system with Matthew Pisarcik getting the start each week. Junior Ross Rushing enters on pre-determined drives and also runs Bridgewater's NASCAR hurry-up package. Pisarcik is completing 61% of his throws but he's been intercepted six times.

Jacob Wright continues to show week-to-week improvement after a slow start. A week ago at Guilford, Wright rushed for a career-high three touchdowns in the loss to the Quakers.

Bridgewater's deep threat receiver - Cliff Woodard - remains the top statistical reciever for the Eagles with 377 yards and seven touchdown receptions.

Saturday's game marks the 45th all-time meeting between Bridgewater and Washington and Lee. W&L leads the all-time series with a 26-18 record against the Eagles. The first meeting in the series occured in 1964. That game was won by Washington and Lee by a 24-16 score.

Washington and Lee has claimed three of the last four games in series history. In the 22 games in series history played at the Jopson Athletic Complex, Washington and Lee owns a 12-10 record against the Eagles.

Kick off on Saturday afternoon is set for 2 p.m. For fans who are unable to attend, the game will be aired live on 95.5 WBOP FM with the pregame show starting at 1:30 p.m. For fans outside of the area, a live video stream will be available at BridgewaterEagles.com. Fans will be able to enjoy high-definition streaming at a cost of $5, or watch the game in standard definition for free.
