Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Sophomore Abby Mills collected her seventh double-double of the season as the volleyball team fell to visiting Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Randolph-Macon College on Senior Day.
Carleigh Studtmann posted the first kill of the opening set before the Yellow Jackets collected three straight points to pull ahead. However, the Eagles didn't allow them to escape as Bridgewater climbed its way back to the lead on a kill by senior Megann Grimes and several errors committed by the Yellow Jackets.
Randolph-Macon was able to regroup and hit a six-point stride to grab the lead and send the Eagles into a timeout. Grimes had a pair of kills to bring the score to 19-15, while Mills added a pair of her own to bridge the gap but the Yellow Jackets secured the 25-16 set win.
The Eagles took a small 5-3 lead in the second set before Randolph-Macon rallied on Bridgewater errors for a 7-5 edge. However, errors committed by the Yellow Jackets allowed the Eagles to tie the score. Despite Randolph-Macon's best efforts to shake off the Eagles, Bridgewater managed to stay close behind.
The Yellow Jackets tried to further the point gap but two kills by Mills sent the Eagles ahead 19-18, leading Randolph-Macon into a timeout. The Yellow Jackets bounced back and increased the lead to 22-21 before collecting the final three points to cap off the set, 25-21.
Although Bridgewater was once again first on the scoreboard in the final set, the score would remain tight until the Eagles had four straight points to lead 12-9. The teams battled for the point advantage with each recording two points per turn.
Randolph-Macon stole the lead on three kills and a Bridgewater attack error, calling for a final Bridgewater timeout. Rachel Kinsey added one more kill for the Eagles but the Yellow Jackets secured the match victory with the last two points.
Mills notched 10 kills to lead the Eagles and contributed 11 digs for the defense. Grimes chipped in nine kills of her own in her final home appearance. Chelsea Owensby led the defense with 13 digs while Nikki Snyder also added 11. Shannon Skellchock dished out 31 assists for the night.
Katie Rossberg led the Yellow Jackets with 12 kills while Courtney Lowers added 11. Samantha Sallade recorded 25 digs to lead the defense. Erin Quinn posted 21 assists with Riley Martin collecting 10.
The Eagles close out their regular season Saturday at the Catholic University of America Tri-Match in Washington D.C. Bridgewater faces off against Catholic at 11 a.m., followed by Lancaster Bible at 1 p.m.
