WINCHESTER, Va. - Bridgewater College blanked Shenandoah, 5-0, in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match played Saturday evening. The match was forced indoors to the Winchester Country Club and played to decision due to Saturday's rainy weather.
The Eagles controlled doubles play to take a 3-0 lead. Bridgewater lost just one game combined at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
At No. 1, Bridgewater's Katie Gordon and Maria Hawkins blanked Molly Barb and Shannon Allin 8-0. Marla O'Bryan and Jessie Mitchell followed with an 8-1 victory at No. 2 over Shenandoah's Amber Lake and Rachel Gross. Bridgewater's Holly Knupp and Whitney Cash finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Amy Rapp and Caitlin Tilton.
O'Bryan gave the Eagles a 4-0 lead with a decisive 6-1, 6-0 victory over Rapp at No. 3 singles. Hawkins added the clinching point with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Allin at No. 2 singles to finish off the match.
Bridgewater is now 7-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
