Field Hockey Tripped Up by Rhodes, 4-0

CONWAY, Ark. - After seeing it's game on Friday evening get halted due to poor weather conditions, the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team had numerous opportunities on Saturday against Rhodes, but it was the Lynx capitalizing on their chances in a 4-0 victory over the Eagles on Saturday at Hendrix. 

Rhodes ripped multiple shots at the Bridgewater cage in the opening part of the first half before Kennedy Brislin put the Lynx on the board off of a penalty stroke at the 18:11 mark to build a 1-0 Rhodes lead. 

The Lynx kept the pressure on at the offensive end and fired another shot at the Bridgewater goal, but sophomore Brianna Bashore was there to turn away the opportunity to keep the score at a 1-0 Rhodes lead. At the 21:49 mark, Evy Royther took a pass from Julie Hertzman and beat Bashore to extend the deficit to 2-0 with under 14 minutes to play in the opening frame. 

Rhodes added another goal at the 23:45 mark when Lauren Travis found the back of the net off of a pass from Hertzman to hand the Lynx a 3-0 lead at the break. 

Following the third tally of the game for Rhodes, the Eagles switched the field and went on the attack. Junior Alenka Ferrufino ripped a shot at the net and had it turned away but the Eagles later earned a penalty stroke. Senior Caroline Augsburger pulled up to the line and fired her stroke at the net but it missed to keep the deficit at 3-0. 

Over the final minutes of the first half, the Eagles kept the pressure on Rhodes with multiple shots, but Lynx net minder Erin Bailey turned away each attempt to keep the score at a 3-0 Rhodes lead at the break. 

As the contest shifted to the second half, the Eagles continued to pound the Rhodes goal but Bailey was up to the task, turning away each attempt. 

Rhodes tallied its final goal in the 41st minute on a penalty stroke to run away to a 4-0 victory. 

Junior Taylor Prillaman led the offense with four shots while Augsburger and sophomore Elizabeth Washington each tallied three shots in the loss. 

Between the pipes, Bashore and freshman Amanda Harper split the action. Bashore made two saves over the first 28-plus minutes, while Harper made four saves over the remainder of the contest. Sarah Rozell and Katherine Ellis also tallied defensive saves for the Eagles in the loss. 

Brislin led the Lynx with two goals on the day while Bailey turned away nine shots to earn the shutout victory. 

Bridgewater returns to action on Sunday morning to wrap up its game against Hendrix. The two teams will join the game, in progress, with Bridgewater owning a 2-0 halftime lead. Start time is set for 10 a.m.
