Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team fell 3-0 to Old Dominon Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Shenandoah University Friday evening.
The Eagles stuck close to the Hornets in the opening set. Sophomore Megan Lookabaugh locked down the first point for Bridgewater, followed by a pair of kills from Shannon Skellchock moments later. Megan Grimes and Abby Mills recorded several kills to keep the Eagles afloat but the Hornets would take a large lead midway through the set. Carleigh Studtmann and Grimes notched three more kills for Bridgewater in an effort to decrease the gap, but the Hornets collected the final match point for a 25-16 score.
The second set looked up for the Eagles as Lookabaugh's two kills placed Bridgewater in the lead, while several attack errors commited by the Hornets on Studtmann's serves helped maintain the gap. Shenandoah caught up to the Eagles but the squad managed to steal away on the Hornet's attack errors, as well as kills by Mills and Lookabaugh. Shenandoah would remain close behind before finally overtaking the Eagles to claim a 25-18 victory.
Both teams started off the final set fighting for the lead point. Bridgewater managed to keep Shenandoah within reach with a hard hitting offense until the Hornets once again surged ahead with the lead. The last three consecutive points for Shenandoah would seal the 25-15 set win and the 3-0 match victory.
Grimes led the Eagles offense with seven kills while Lookabaugh added six. Studtmann and Mills chipped in with five kills each. Skellchock recorded 21 assits and led defense with Nikki Snyder, collecting seven digs apiece. Chelsea Owensby helped out with six digs of her own.
The Hornets were led by Kaitlyn Kelley and Elizabeth Lamont who notched nine kills apeice with Rachel Gross adding eight. Brandi Griffith recorded 12 digs for defense and Rachel Cerretani ended the match with 33 assists.
The Eagles are back on the road tomorrow when they face ODAC rival Washington and Lee University at noon, followed by St. Mary's (Md.) at 2 p.m.
