Box Score CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Junior Rachael Loy found the back of the net early in the second half to break a 1-1 deadlock and later assisted a Caroline Augsburger goal as time expired as the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team came from behind for a 3-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at Wilson College.
The host Phoenix got on the board first after Bridgewater controlled play early in the contest. Chanteal Cobb dished a pass off to Megan Sterling and Sterling found the back of the net to hand Wilson a 1-0 lead early in the 10th minute.
Bridgewater quickly answered the Wilson (3-4) goal. Junior Alenka Ferrufino batted the ball out of the air and found the back of the cage to knot the game up at a goal each at the 13:29 mark of the first half. The goal was Ferrufino's team-leading fourth of the season.
Over the remainder of the first half the opportunities were limited for both teams. Bridgewater ripped off a trio of shots over the final seven minutes of the first half but none of the shots were able to break the deadlock. Taylor Prillaman's shot was turned away and Loy's shot went high, while Ferrufino had her shot rejected as time expired on the first stanza as the game went to the intermission at a 1-1 deadlock.
Out of the halftime break, the Bridgewater offense when on the attack and scored the go-ahead tally less than two minutes into the final frame. Ferrufino ripped a shot wide just prior to Loy scoring her first goal of the season to build a 2-1 Eagles lead after just 97 seconds of action in the second half.
Bridgewater (3-4) remained on the attack, earning multiple corners after the Loy tally. The Eagles ripped two shots at replacement net minder Kayla Butts during the barrage but couldn't add an insurance tally as the lead held at a 2-1 score midway through the second stanza.
Over the remainder of the contest, Bridgewater continued to pound the Wilson goal but the Eagles wouldn't break through again until the final play of the game. For the second game in a row, the Eagles earned a corner as time expired. This time, Bridgewater capitalized as Loy pushed the corner insert to Augsburger and the senior found the back of the cage for the second time this season to finalize the scoring and send Bridgewater home with a 3-1 victory.
Ferrufino and freshman Elizabeth Washington led the Bridgewater offense with four shots each as the Eagles owned a 20-6 edge in shots. Bridgewater also posted a 14-8 advantage in corners.
Freshman Amanda Harper secured her first career win after posting a single save in the victory.
Miranda Long led the way for Wilson with three shots while Sterling added the lone goal of the game for the Phoenix off of two shots.
Butts was tagged with the loss after allowed two Bridgewater goals in the second half of play.
The Eagles return to action at home on Sunday against St. Mary's (Md.). Start time against the Seahawks is set for 1 p.m.
