ANNVILLE, Pa. - The Bridgewater Eagles defeated Frostburg State in their first match of the Fall Fever Quad tournament at Lebanon Valley College.

Chelsea Owensby landed the Eagles first on the scoreboard in the opening set before Frostburg State took a small lead. Megann Grimes delivered three kills after a Frostburg State timeout to bring Bridgewater ahead 17-14 but Frostburg managed to snatch the lead back. Abby Mills, Carleigh Studtmann, and Grimes each a kill each at the end of the set to close the point gap 23-21, however Frostburg State would claim the 26-24 victory on a Bridgewater attack error.

Both teams started out with a matched score in the beginning of the second set until Bridgewater gained momentum and surged ahead on two kills from Megan Lookabaugh and Rachel Kinsey. Studtmann collected two service aces for a 7-2 lead as Frostburg State called a timeout.

The Eagles kept the attacks coming as Grimes added a pair of kills that would open the door for Bridgewater to continue its lead. Rachel Donaldson served the next six points for Bridgewater off of two kills by Mills and one from Owensby, as well as two service aces of her own. Frostburg State tried to catch up but the Eagles never looked back as Grimes delivered the final kill to end the set 25-16.

In the third set, Bridgewater landed first on the scoreboard with kills from Kinsey and Studtmann with Mills adding a service ace. Studtmann kept the Eagles ahead as she stepped up to the serving line to deliver two errors on Frostburg State and kills from Grimes and Kinsey. Frostburg State would close in on the Eagles as it narrowed the score 13-12. After a timeout from Bridgewater, Frostburg State briefly took control of the score but the Eagles remained close behind. 

Mills collected the last Bridgewater points with a pair of kills, two Frostburg State attack errors and a service ace to secure Bridgewater the 25-23 win.

Frostburg State took a small lead in the start of the fourth set but couldn't outrun the Eagles. Bridgewater tied the score 12-12 midway through the set on two kills from Grimes and Kinsey. Frostburg State managed to steal the lead once more but the Eagles would catch up quickly as Courtney Thornburg served a Frostburg State attack error for a 25-23 win to end the match.

Grimes led the Eagles with 17 kills with Mills and Kinsey chipping in 11 each. Shannon Skellchock collected 48 assists and helped lead defense with Mills as they recorded 15 digs each. Mills, Donaldson, and Studtmann recorded two service aces apiece.

Frostburg State was led by Aimee Petrides who tallied 11 kills with Naya Cheatem adding nine. Lindsey Scepura had 20 digs for defense while Madelyn Torres recorded 33 assists.

Bridgewater concludes the Fall Fever Quad Saturday when they face Neumann College at 11 a.m., followed by Lebanon Valley College at 2 p.m.
