Box Score ROANOKE, Va. - The Roanoke College Maroons made a first-half goal stand up Saturday evening as they defeated Bridgewater College 1-0 in ODAC men's soccer action.
The Maroons scored the game's only goal at the 26:46 mark of the first half. Tyler Carbaugh served the ball into the box and Sam Rauf headed the ball into the right side of the goal from just inside the box for a 1-0 Roanoke lead.
Roanoke had a chance to pad its lead moments later when the Maroons were awarded a penalty kick after a foul was called on the Eagles inside the box. Carbaugh took the PK but Eagles' keeper Mark Davis turned the shot away, keeping the score at 1-0.
Roanoke held a 15-6 edge in shots and an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks. Bridgewater took three shots in each half, but put just one shot on goal. Jose Rodriguez took two shots for the Eagles and Derek Newsome had the one shot on goal.
Davis finished the contest with six saves for the Eagles.
The Eagles, now 3-7-1 overall and 0-5 in the conference, will return to action Wednesday when they host rival Eastern Mennonite at 4:00 p.m.
