Mills Records Sixth Double-Double in Final Match of the Season

Box Score

ATLANTA - The Bridgewater College volleyball team fell to Berry College 3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 17-25, 11-25) during the final day of the Emory Invitational hosted by Emory University Saturday in the Woodruff PE Center.

The contest marked the final match of the season for the Eagles after narrowly missing a spot in the ODAC tournament.

The Eagles finished the match with 41 kills, 38 assists, 73 digs and six service aces.

Junior Abby Mills recorded her sixth double-double of season with 12 kills and 14 digs. Freshman Jenna Hamra posted 21 assists and sophomore Macon Frey collected 29 digs.

The Eagles started off strong in the first set to take a 1-0 lead in the match. The team produced 13 kills and a .303 hitting percentage for the early advantage.

During the first, the Eagles grabbed the lead from the start and didn't relinquish it. Mills hammered a kill for a 19-11 margin, and sophomore Rachel Kinsey spiked the kill that gave the Eagles set point.

In the second set, the Eagles racked up 15 kills but committed eight costly errors in a close game. A service error from the Eagles put Berry (22-6) ahead 21-17.

Freshman Deja Booker blasted a kill to cut the deficit the three, 20-23, but Berry hold on to tie the match score 1-1.

The Eagles offense began to slow down in the third, dishing out only eight kills on a .071 hitting percentage.

Early in the third period, a kill from Mills and an attack error from Berry gave the Eagles a 9-7 lead. A few plays later Hamra landed a service ace for a 14-all affair.

However, the Berry defense held the Eagles to only four more points to win back-to-back sets.

By the fourth set, the Eagles had ran out of gas and could muster only 11 points during the frame. Berry grabbed a 14-4 lead to start the period and never looked back as they closed out the match.

The Eagles conclude the 2015 season with an overall record of 8-21 and 4-7 in the ODAC.
