Box Score EMORY, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team held on for a 3-2 (25-22, 25-16, 16-25, 18-25, 15-11) victory over conference foe Emory & Henry on the road Wednesday evening at the John Rutledge King Center.
The win marked the Eagles second Old Dominion Athletic Conference triumph of the year as they improved to 4-12 overall and 2-4 in the ODAC.
During the conference clash, the Eagles won the hitting battle .201 to .181. The team also posted 50 kills, 61 digs and 47 assists.
Junior Abby Mills recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs to lead the Eagles.
Senior Jette Wade also added 11 kills, freshman Victoria Wilson registered 38 assist and sophomore Macon Frey tallied 18 digs.
The Eagles gained the momentum early in the match by claiming the first game.
The match went back and forth to start the first set before Mills hammered a kill for an Eagles 15-10 advantage.
An attack error from the Wasps (8-9, 2-3 ODAC) gave the Eagles their largest lead of the frame, 18-11.
The Wasps fought back to close to gap to 24-22, but a ball handling error from Sam McCauley gave the Eagles game point.
In the second set, the Eagles had 15 kills and a hitting percentage of .355 to claim their second game.
Freshman Sydney McTigue delivered a service ace to put the Eagles ahead, 20-12, and never looked back as the team won the second set with ease.
The Wasps began to show life in the third period as they stormed out to a 14-5 lead.
The Eagles struggled to recover from the large deficit, and a service error gave the Wasps game point.
During the fourth set, the momentum continued to favor the Wasps. The team dialed up a service ace for a 19-14 lead over the Eagles late in the period.
The Wasps surrendered only four more points to force a fifth set.
The fifth set came down to the wire as sophomore Sarah Temple found a hole in the Wasps defense to tie the game, 10-all. Mills then blasted back-to-back kills for a slime two-point margin.
The Wasps had a kill to cut the lead, 12-11, but the Eagles scored three unanswered for the road win.
The Eagles return home to Nininger Hall on Saturday, Oct. 10 to host a tri-match beginning at 11 a.m. The participating teams include Southern Virginia and Virginia Union.
