ROANOKE, Va. - Roanoke College won the final four matches on the singles ladder Friday to turn back the Bridgewater College Eagles 6-3 in ODAC women's tennis action moved indoors to the Roanoke Country Club.
The Maroons led 2-1 after doubles play.
Bridgewater's No. 1 doubles team of Maria Hawkins and Marla O'Bryan slipped past Roanoke's Emily Henderson and Reed Kegel 9-7.
Emma Barker and Kristen McDowell defeated Bridgewater's Ashley Price and Shannon Quinn at No. 2 doubles 8-2 while Briell Smith and Lydia Dey stopped the Eagles' Whitney Cash and Leanne Smithers 8-1 at the No. 3 doubles slot.
Hawkins took a split set victory over Henderson at No. 1 singles. The Eagles sophomore won the first set 6-4 but then lost the second set by the identical score. A tiebreaker was played to decide the match with Hawkins winning 10-7.
O'Bryan took the No. 2 singles match in straight sets, defeating Roanoke's Kegel 6-4, 6-3.
Bridgewater's Quinn lost in three sets at No. 4 to Barker. Quinn won the first set 6-2 but lost the second set 7-6. In the tiebreaker to determine the winner, Barker prevailed 10-7.
Roanoke won the remaining thee matches in straight sets.
At No. 3 singles, Smith stopped Bridgewater's Price 6-0, 6-0. Roanoke's Haley Goodes took a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Cash at No. 5 and the Maroons Kaitlyn Diskerud defeated Smithers 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 6 singles flight.
