HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team blanked ODAC foe Sweet Briar, 9-0, Thursday in a match played at Hilton Head.
Bridgewater's Maria Hawkins picked up a big win at No. 1 singles as she defeated Caitlin Delmas, ranked No. 23 in the region, in split sets. Hawkins lost the first set 6-4, but bounced back to even the match by taking the second set 6-3. A tiebreaker was played to determine the winner with Hawkins coming out on top 10-5.
The Eagles' Ashley Price also won her match at No. 4 singles in split sets over Sweet Briar's Anna Colvin. Price took the opening set by a score of 6-2 while Colvin won the second set 6-4. Price slipped past Colvin in the tiebreaker 10-8.
Bridgewater won the remaining singles matches in straight sets.
Marla O'Bryan blanked AJ Lukanuski 6-0. 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Shannon Quinn stopped Gina Rutledge 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3.
At No. 5 singles, Whitney Cash rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Adwoa Sika while Haley Lloyd took the victory at No. 6 over Samantha Yew 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles play, Hawkins and O'Bryan took an 8-1 victory over Lukanuski and Rutledge at the No. 1 slot.
Quinn and Price were pushed to the linit at No. 2 as the duo slipped past Delmas and Colvin 9-7.
Cash and Lloyd completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 victory over Yew and Margaret Raymond.
