Softball Drops Two to Quakers on Senior Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College softball team fell in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader against visiting Guilford College in the Eagles' final home contest of the season.

Prior to the start of the first game, the Eagles honored lone senior and starting pitcher Amanda Lutz who would see through all seven innings in the circle.

Although the Eagles managed to collect one out in the top of the inning, Caroline Barnette hit an out of the park homerun to place the Quakers first on the scoreboard.

The Quakers extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the third as Cali Pastor was walked with bases loaded and one out. However Guilford wouldn't see another run in the inning as Lutz struck out the last two hitters to leave three runners on base.

Neither team saw much action until the top of the sixth when Guilford added four runs for a 6-0 tally. Bridgewater was unable to respond as the Quakers clinched the 7-0 win in the top of the seventh.

Balcom, Kirtner and Foltz were all 1-for-2 at the plate while Cox was 1-for-3. Amanda Lutz pitched all seven innings in her final career home game, giving up 13 hits on seven runs while striking out four batters.

In the second game the Quakers repeated their first game success as they landed first on the scoreboard in the top of the first, tallying three runs before coming back in the top of the third to add two more runs for a 5-0 lead.

The Eagles couldn't find a scoring opportunity as Guilford extended its lead to 7-0 in the top of the fourth as a Rachel Howard double brought in Taylor Boyd and Laura Hall with only one out.

Bridgewater couldn't make up the deficit as the Quakers clinched a sacrifice fly for a final 8-0 tally to end the game in five innings.

Cox was 1-for-1 at bat while Balcom was 1-for-2. Cox took the loss in the circle, allowing three runs on four hits while walking and striking out two batters.
