Eagles Blank Salisbury For First Win Of Season

Box Score

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.
- Bridgewater College picked up its first win of the season with a 1-0 shutout victory over Salisbury at the St. Mary's College Seahawks Classic.

The loss was the first of the season for Salisbury. The Seagulls, now 3-1, were ranked No. 8 in the country in the current D3soccer.com poll.

The Seagulls took more than twice as many shots in the first half as they held an 11-5 advantage over Bridgewater. Eagles keeper Mark Davis came away with four saves in the opening 45 minutes to keep the game scoreless.

Bridgewater scored the game's lone goal at the 60:17 mark. Eagles freshman Aaron McElhenny tallied what proved to be the game-winner off an assist from senior Logan McGlynn for a 1-0 BC lead. The goal came on a set piece from about 25 yards out. McGlynn served the ball in to the back side where McElhenny beat his defender one-on-one to score the goal.

Over the next 15 minutes Salisbury took the only two shots, but each time Davis was in position for the save, preserving the 1-0 lead.

The Eagles then responded with two shots on goal, both by freshman Noah Malpass, but Seagulls keeper Drew Staedeli made a pair of stops to keep it a one-goal game.

Salisbury put one more shot on goal in the closing minutes, but Davis was there for the save on a shot by Brooks Zentgraf.

The Seagulls held a 15-11 edge in shots and each team put seven shots on goal. Salisbury also held a 6-2 margin in corner kicks.

McGlynn, Max Chacon, Malpass and Austin White each had two shot attempts for the Eagles. Davis was stellar in goal, finishing with seven saves to record his first shutout of the season.

The Eagles, now 1-2-1, return to action Saturday afternoon when they host Washington and Lee in their first ODAC game of the season. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
