Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - Randolph College put three goals on the board in the second half Saturday evening and defeated Bridgewater College 4-2 in ODAC men's soccer action.
The teams played on even terms for most of the first half, but a late goal by the WildCats gave the hosts a 1-0 lead at the break. Randolph's Troy Journey beat a pair of defenders to score an unassisted goal, giving Randolph the first goal of the game at the 36:44 mark.
Randolph added a goal in the 62nd minute when Salvador Ramirez scored off an assist from Blake Heatherly for a 2-0 WildCats lead.
Eight seconds later, the Eagles answered the Ramirez score when Bridgewater's Max Chacon tallied his first goal of the season to make it a one-goal game, 2-1, at the 61:40 mark.
The WildCats regained control as Heatherly added a pair of goals over the next 20 minutes to push Randolph's lead to 4-1.
Bridgewater scored its second goal in the 85th minute off a corner kick opportunity. Logan McGlynn served the ball into the box where Kevin Gidari's shot attempt was blocked. Matthew Pagano played the rebound into the back of the net for his first career goal, pulling the Eagles to within 4-2.
The WildCats held a 24-18 edge in shot attempts with a slim 10-9 margin in shots on goal. Randolph also held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Bridgewater keeper Mark Davis finished the contest with six saves. Matt Tourbin played the first 70 minutes in goal for the WildCats, notching five saves while allowing one goal. CJ Stevens finished up by allowing one goal to go along with two saves.
Bridgewater is now 2-4-1 overall and 0-2 in the ODAC. Randolph improves to 4-3-1 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play.
The Eagles return to action Wednesday evening when they travel to Shenandoah University for an ODAC contest. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
