Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team dropped a conference match against Lynchburg College, 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-21), at home in Nininger Hall on Wednesday evening.
The Eagles (3-12, 1-4 ODAC) entered the matchup looking for its second straight ODAC victory following a 3-2 nail biter over Guilford College Sept. 26.
The Eagles offense got off to a good start in the first set with 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .353.
In the heart of the first period, the Eagles claimed a 17-15 advantage behind a kill from sophomore Carleigh Studtmann.
Both teams battled as a kill by sophomore Sarah Temple knotted the score 23-all. The Hornets (6-9, 2-3 ODAC) earned the side out on the next play, and the Hornet's Amanda Wrightson delivered a kill for set point.
During the second set, the Eagles tallied 18 kills but couldn't tie the match.
The Hornets jumped out to a 10-6 lead early in the second frame. However, the Eagles scored five straight points to come within one, 21-20
A bad set from the Hornets tied the scoreboard, 23-23, but they earned the set point with back-to-back kills.
In the final period, a multitude of attack errors from the Eagles put the Hornets ahead 15-5.
Nonetheless, the Eagles were able to close the gap, 21-18, following a kill from sophomore Rachel Kinsey.
The game went back and forth late in the third set, but the Eagles couldn't overcome the early deficit as a kill from the Hornet's Kelly Layne ended the match.
As a team, the Eagles had a hitting percentage of .239, 48 kills, 45 assists and 46 digs.
Kinsey posted 12 kills to lead all players for the second match in a row. Freshman Victoria Wilson recorded 42 assists and Macon Frey tallied 19 digs.
The Eagles return to action with a conference road match against Emory & Henry Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.
