Box Score MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Piedmont College scored the game-winning goal with less than 10 minutes left in regulation to hand Bridgewater College a 2-1 defeat Sunday at the Maryville Fall Classic.
The Lions (3-0) led 1-0 at the break when Morgan Edelman converted a penalty kick in the 31st minute of play.
Bridgewater evened the score early in the second half when Michelle Viegas scored off an assist from Bailey Kratz to tie the contest at 1-1.
The score remained tied until the 81st minute when Piedmont's Cassidy Reich scored off an assist from Katie Davine for a 2-1 advantage.
The Eagles were unable to answer in the closing minutes and lost their second game of the weekend.
Statistics were even in the contest as the Eagles held a 12-11 edge in shots while Piedmont owned a 3-2 margin in corner kicks.
Viegas led the Eagles with four shots, including two on goal. Nikole Blackwell took three shots while Kelly Patterson put both of her attempts on goal.
Bridgewater keeper Hayley Talbott recorded five saves while Michaela Gardner finished with three saves for the Lions.
Bridgewater (1-2) is back in action Wednesday when the Eagles travel to Averett.
