Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College volleyball team had three players register at least eight kills in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 27-25) lost against #14 Mary Washington on Wednesday.
The matchup marked Bridgewater's (17-7) first contest of the season against a nationally-ranked opponent.
Abby Mills notched double-digit kills with 11 and added eight digs. Bailey Long recorded nine kills and Carleigh Studtmann contributed eight more. Macon Frey led all players with 15 digs and Jenna Hamra dished out 30 assists.
For Mary Washington (23-2), Savannah Powers posted a match-high 12 kills to go along with 10 digs in a double-double effort. Jenna Yost dug up 13 attacks and Emma Olson notched a match-best 36 assists.
UMW edged BC by a score of 25-18 in the first two sets.
Bridgewater battled in the third set and grabbed a 16-14 advantage over the 14th-best team in DIII.
Mary Washington pulled away with a 24-19 margin, but a couple of block assists from Victoria Wilson and Madison Haynes highlighted a 6-0 rally that put Bridgewater ahead 25-24.
Nonetheless, Mary Washington scored three unanswered points to prevent the comeback attempt.
The Eagles will celebrate senior day as they host a tri-match against ODAC rival Guilford (11:00 a.m.) and Averett (3:00 p.m.) on Saturday.
