Field Hockey Loses First Game on Fall Break Trip

Box Score

MEMPHIS – Rhodes scored on their only two shots on goal, taking a 2-0 win over the Bridgewater College field hockey team on Friday.

The Lynx improve to 11-1 on the season, with their only loss coming on the road at #19 Catholic, the team Bridgewater defeated 2-1 in the first round of last year's NCAA tournament.

Rhodes opened the scoring in the 48th minute, with Lizzie Wood finally finding the target off an assist from Maddie Smith.

The Eagles went right down the other way and earned two straight penalty corners, but could not record a shot on either.

Rhodes added an insurance goal after earning a corner in the final four minutes. Smith again had the assist, feeding Jillian Christensen for the 2-0 lead.

Laura Eckelkamp made five saves in the cage for Rhodes including two second half stops, denying Emily Matisons on both occasions.

Matisons would finish with four total shot attempts, all on target, with Ecklekamp also denying Tessa Tierson once in the first half.

Alexis Thomasson made her first collegiate start in the cage for Bridgewater.

The Eagles (6-4) are traveling South on their fall break, and will play in Arkansas at Hendrix tomorrow.
