Eagles Total 52 Shots in 7-0 Victory

Box Score

CONWAY, Ark. – The Bridgewater College field hockey team rebounded from yesterday's loss to rout Hendrix 7-0 on the road Saturday.

Elizabeth Washington and Emily Matisons scored twice each for BC, while Casey Gaffney and Madison Clement each recorded two assists.

The Eagles held a commanding 52-6 advantage in shots and ran out to a 4-0 lead at halftime.

Bridgewater jumped all over Hendrix, earning four penalty corners in the opening five minutes with Nadine Matena making a defensive save to deny Clement in the second minute.

The Eagles finally converted on the fourth corner as Washington took Gaffney's insert and scored at 5:19 of the first half.

Hendrix's Anna King made another defensive save in the 11th minute, this time stopping Marisa Sims. Less than two minutes later the Eagles went up 2-0 through Matisons, with Clement providing the assist.

Hendrix called timeout but the Eagles kept pressing, with Clement recording her second assist in a span of under two minutes, finding Tessa Tierson for a 3-0 lead.

Gaffney assisted Washington for the second time in the first half to make it 4-0, this time in the run of play as opposed to a corner.

Matisons made it 5-0 early in the second half, before Bridgewater scored its final two of the day in the final minute of play.

Shannon Strosser converted with 15 seconds remaining, and the Eagles went down and won a penalty corner with time expired. Matena made her third defensive save of the game, but Valerie Fazio followed up the rebound to end the game with Bridgewater's seventh goal.

Freshman goalie Alexis Thomasson made her second straight start and earned her first collegiate victory, while classmate Emily Witzke played the second half in the cage.

While the Eagles goalies didn't record a save, the defense did as senior Katie Ellis turned a chance by Raychl Reger away from the goalline in the first half to keep the hosts off the board.

Bridgewater improves to 7-4 overall and and will resume conference play on Thursday with a home game vs. Roanoke.
