Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Virginia Wesleyan scored twice during a two-minute span of the first half and the Marlins went on to defeat Bridgewater, 3-0, Saturday afternoon in ODAC men's soccer action.
The Marlins got on the board in the 30th minute. Austin McKenzie sent a long pass out of the defensive end over the Eagles defense. Reggie Lloyd got to the ball first, took two dribbles and hit a hard, low shot that went off keeper Mark Davis into the center of the goal for a 1-0 Marlins lead.
Less than two minutes later, Lloyd struck again from the top of the box as he spun past a defender for a hard shot into the left side of the goal for a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles threatened in the final minutes of the half, but Marlins keeper Jay Fox made a leaping save to deny a shot by Max Chacon.
Bridgewater had a couple of strong scoring chances in the second half, but diving saves by Fox turned away shots by Garrett Shan and Teraance Andrews.
Virginia Wesleyan scored in the final minute on a goal by Ricky Perrault for the final 3-0 margin.
Virginia Wesleyan held a 21-7 edge in total shots while the Eagles held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
With the loss, the Eagles are now 6-4-2 overall and 1-2-0 in the ODAC. Bridgewater is back in action Wednesday when the Eagles host Randolph College.
