Lam Scores 1000th Career Point, Lehan Records Triple-Double In Eagles 79-63 Win

BRIDGEWATER, Va.
- Jessica Lam scored her 1,000th career point and Kaitlyn Lehan recorded a triple-double to spark Bridgewater College past the Apprentice School 79-63 Saturday afternoon in Nininger Hall.

Lam finished the contest with 19 points to become the 21st player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark. She now has 1,005 points to rank No. 20 on the Eagles' all-time scoring list.

Lehan blocked a program record 12 shots and added 14 points and 10 rebounds to record the third triple-double in program history. The previous single-game blocks record was held by Rebecca Henderson who twice blocked eight shots in a game. The last time a triple-double was recorded came on Feb. 1, 2011 when Jordan Burkholder scored 15 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 12 assists against Roanoke College. 

Briana Moore scored 18 of her game-high 23 points in the first half to lead  the Eagles to a commanding 44-25 lead at the half.

The Eagles held a slim 12-11 lead midway through the opening period, but then closed with an 8-2 run to open up a 20-13 lead. Rebecca Harvey connected on 2-of-4 free throws and a layup by Lam gave the Eagles a 16-11 lead. Two foul shots by Moore were offset by a layup from Apprentice forward Ylexzis Traeger before Moore hit a 15-footer just before the buzzer for a 20-13 Bridgewater advantage after the first period.

Apprentice closed to within three early in the second period on a jumper by Quanisha Bruce, but the Eagles answered with six straight points - all by Lam - to lead by nine, 26-17, with 7:02 left in the half.

Apprentice guard Courtney White knocked down a 3-pointer with 5:25 left to pull the visitors to within 28-21, but then the Eagles took control with a 15-0 run to open up a 22-point lead.

Lehan started the run with a short jumper and Harvey added a layup, giving the Eagles their first double-digit lead of the game, 32-21. Moore converted a three-point play and Lehan hit two free throws, making the score 37-21. With 2:51 left in the half, Moore was fouled and then the Apprentice bench was hit with a technical. Moore made all four foul shots to put the Eagles up 41-21 with 2:28 left in the half. Jasmine Pinder capped the outburst with a short jumper, giving Bridgewater a 43-21 lead.

Apprentice scored four straight points before Victoria Green made 1-of-2 free throws with 11 seconds left in the half, sending the Eagles to the locker room with a commanding 44-25 advantage.

The Eagles cruised in the second half, leading by as many as 29 points en route to the final 79-63 victory.

Briidgewater is now 5-4 overall and takes a break until after Christmas. Thge Eagles return to action on Dec. 29 and Dec. 30 when they play in the Susan Dunagan Classic hosted by Roanoke College.
