KISSIMMEE, Fla. - After starting the season 2-0, the Bridgewater College softball team fell to softball powerhouses Trine, 16-1, and Montclair State, 9-0, during its second day of the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla., on Monday.

Against Trine (2-2), senior Brooke Throckmorton went 1-for-2 at the plate with one run and an RBI. Throckmorton put the Eagles (2-2) on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with a solo homer to left field.

The Thunder opened up the contest with three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Racquel Ward batted in two runners off a single with the bases loaded and Alison Lang delivered an RBI double to give the Thunder the early lead.

Ward held the Eagles to four hits in the circle and led the Thunder offense with three hits and seven RBI.

In the second game of the day, sophomore Mariah Wharton finished 2-for-3 at the plate and senior Brianna Cox recorded four strikeouts in the circle against Montclair State (3-1).

Sam Kreating (W, 1-0) pitched the shutout for the Red Hawks behind two strikeouts, two walks and four hits. Noel Hodgins led the Red Hawks lineup with three hits and an RBI.

Cox registered her first triple of the season in the fourth inning. Throckmorton reached first on a passed ball then stole second and freshmen Mikalia Guard drew a walk to load the bases. However, the Eagles couldn't capitalize as the Red Hawks got the next two outs to close out the inning.

Back-to-back RBI singles put the Red Hawks ahead 6-0 in the sixth and added three more runs in the seventh inning to come away with the victory.

The Eagles will resume play tomorrow with matchups against Husson (1:30 p.m.) and Muskingum (3:45 p.m.).
