Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BRIDGEWATER, Va. –
The Bridgewater College softball team dropped a pair of games to No. 5 Virginia Wesleyan, 9-0 (five innings) and 6-0, at Fulk Field on Friday afternoon.

The double feature with Virginia Wesleyan marked the Eagles second matchup against a nationally-ranked opponent. Bridgewater also competed against now 20th ranked Trine (March 7) earlier this season.

Game one: Virginia Wesleyan 9, Bridgewater 0 (five innings)

Bridgewater was solid in the first inning, allowing no hits and stranding a runner on second base, but the Virginia Wesleyan bats came to life in the top of the second.

During the second inning, the Marlins produced six runs on a double, three singles, and an error to take the early lead.

Courtney Bogan hit an RBI double to left field in the top of the third, and the Marlins added two more runs in the fifth inning to claim game one.

Freshman Lindsey Talley went 2-for-3 at the dish to record her seventh game with multiple hits and senior Brianna Cox posted four strikeouts.

For the Marlins, Mary Shipp and Kasey Newcomb combined to shutout the Eagles on four hits.

Game two: Virginia Wesleyan 6, Bridgewater 0

Despite giving up a six-run lead in the top of the first, the Eagles played the Marlins evenly through the remainder of the contest.

Sophomore pitcher Hannah Trala entered the game in the second inning and retired seven straight batters to settle the game down.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles attempted to spark a rally as Cox singled to right center with only one out. Senior Brooke Throckmorton singled down the left field line on the next at bat, but a grounder to the pitcher and a caught foul ball by the catcher closed game two.

Trala finished the game with two strikeouts, six hits and a walk in six innings of work.

The Eagles are back at home on Tuesday, April 12 with another ODAC doubleheader against Roanoke with first pitch set at 3:00 p.m.
