BRIDGEWATER, VA. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team swept the Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels Wednesday night in their Dig Pink game. BC was dominant on the night, winning by a final score of 3-0 (25-11, 25-4, 25-8). 

Sophmore Rachael Girard set a new Bridgewater College volleyball record with 14 service aces in the game. Girard also led the team in assists with 28 and digs with ten. Freshman Emily Hanger broke out with 12 kills, hit .733, and had three blocks to lead the Eagles. Freshman Anaya Ghacham added seven kills and a service ace. Sophmore Allison Clark pitched in eight kills and two blocks. 

Mary Baldwin battled early in the first set. Emily Hanger came up with a kill to give the Eagles a 6-4 advantage early on. Hanger continued her success in the first set, giving BC five of their final eight points on kills. 

The Eagles stormed out to a dramatic lead in the second set, going on a 16-0 rally. Girard had eight service aces during that stretch, while Clark had three kills. 

Bridgewater continued to ride the serve of Girard in the third set, who had four service aces during a 8-0 BC rally to start the set. Allison Clark and freshman Lindsay Olzawski recorded a big block during that rally. Ghacham notched her first career service ace late in the set to give the Eagles a 19-4 lead. 

The Eagles are now 15-4 on the year and have won three straight. The team returns to action next Wednesday, Oct. 11 with a conference match-up at home against Shenandoah. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Nininger Hall.
