HILTON HEAD IDLAND, S.C. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team defeated Sweet Briar College, 8-1, in an ODAC matchup played Wednesday during the teams' Spring Break trip.
The Eagles controlled doubles play, losing a total of just four games, to take a 3-0 lead.
Whitney Kiser and Nicole Shifflett got the day started with an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles over AJ Lujanuski and Gina Rutledge. Jamiah Lewis and Shannon Quinn were victorious at No. 2 with an 8-3 win over Emily Wandling and Samantha Yew. Stephanie Barton and Whitney Cash completed the sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 3 over Des'rae Davis and Alexis Cully.
Bridgewater won five of six in singles play to clinch the team win.
Lewis rolled past Lukanuski 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Kiser picked up the win at No. 2 by defeating Rutledge 6-1, 6-1.
Sweet Briar picked up its point at No. 3 singles where Wandling downed Shifflett 6-1, 6-1.
The Eagles got back on the winning track at No. 4 when Barton stopped Yew 6-3, 6-3. Cash coasted past Davis 6-1, 6-0 to win at No. 5 and Quinn turned back Culley 6-2, 6-2 to take the win at No. 6.
