HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Eastern Nazarene slipped past Bridgewater College, 5-4, Thursday morning in men's tennis action. The match was a completion of the contest started on Monday and sudpended with the Eagles holding a 3-2 lead.
Bridgewater won two pf three doubles matches on Monday to lead 2-1.
Freddie Roberts and Nathaniel Horner were first off the court as they rolled to an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles over Kaden Swarr and Shaw Campbell.
The Lions evened the score when Santiago Camero and Henry Siercke outlasted Kyle Hartfield and Thomas Rishcoff, 8-6, at the No. 2 slot.
Bridgewater's No. 1 doubles team - Joe Dillenbeck and Josh Rodgers - put the Eagles ahead with a tough 8-5 win over Alex Partyka and Laurent Ruttkowski.
Horner put the Eagles ahead 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kyle Pierson at No. 5 singles. The Lions got a point back when Camero defeated Roberts 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
At that point, the match was suspended with the Eagles leading 3-2.
When play resumed Thurday, the Lions evened the score when Partyla defeated Hartfield 6-4, 6-3 to win the No. 1 singles match.
The Lions moved ahead as Davis Steelmen edged Bridgewater's Emmett Johnson at No. 6 singles. Steelman won the first set 7-5, but Johnson held on to win the second set 7-6 (7-3) to even the match. A tiebreaker was played to deternine the winner with Steelman taking a close 11-9 win.
Eastern Nazarene clinched the team victory when Siercke defeated Dillenbeck 6-1, 6-3 to win the No. 2 singles match.
The Eagles picked up their final point at No. 3 singles where Rodgers downed Ruttkowski 6-4, 6-3.
