Box Score 2 VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - No. 1 ranked Virginia Wesleyan used a pair of strong pitching efforts Saturday afternoon to defeat Bridgewater College 3-0 and 5-1 in an ODAC doubleheader.
Bridgewater pitcher Carolyn Campbell matched zeroes on the scoreboard with Marlins' ace freshman Hanna Hull for three innings before the hosts took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Hull helped herself out with a two-run double in the fourth for a 2-0 Marlins' lead.
Madison Glaubke drove in Virginia Wesleyan's final run with a double in the sixth inning, making the score 3-0.
Hull limited the Eagles to just two hits and struck out 19 batters. Bridgewater's Mikalia Guard broke up Hull's no-hit bid with a single in the fourth and Lindsey Talley added a single in the sixth for the Eagles.
Bridgewater scored a run in the top of the first to open the second game. Talley led off with a single and moved to second on a groundout by Victoria Gontarz. Talley scored on a single by Guard for a 1-0 Bridgewater lead.
Virginia Wesleyan evened the score in the bottom of the first on Blake Henderson's RBI-double and then took the lead in the second when Jessica Lindsay led off with a double, moved to second on a Glaubke grounder and then scored on a ground ball by Kaylah Duplain.
The Marlins added two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth to close out the 5-1victory.
Bridgewater finished the second game with five hits. Talley led the way with two hits while Guard, Katie Merhout and Stephanie Carroll each added one base hit.
Virginia Wesleyan finishes the regular season with a 39-1 overall record and a perfect 20-0 mark in the ODAC.
Bridgewater is now 10-26 overall and 3-15 in the ODAC. Bridgewater's Sunday non-conference doubleheader with Ferrum has been cancelled. The Eagles will conclude the regular season on Tuesday when they will finish their doubleheader with Randoplh-Macon, weather permitting.
