Box Score ROANOKE, Va. – The Bridgewater College volleyball team won its first ODAC match with a 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-13, 25-20) win against Roanoke College Friday evening.
The win gives head coach Erin Harris her 100th victory as a head coach at Bridgewater. Harris is in her seventh season as Bridgewater's head coach. Harris has led her teams to three ODAC semi-final appearances and her 100th win puts her at 100-100 for her career.
Bridgewater (9-1) notched 53 kills as a team during the match Friday night and recorded a season-low two service errors compared to Roanoke's (5-5) 33 kills and five service errors.
Senior Macon Frey paced the squad, posting a season-high five service aces and also had 23 digs. Sophomore Rachael Girard led all players with 26 assists.
Sophomore Rachel Gaston led the offensive attack with 15 kills. Sophomore Allison Clark notched a double-double with 12 kills, 13 digs, and added a service ace. Victoria Wilson recorded a double-double of her own with 11 kills, 13 digs, and hit .385. Madison Haynes also added two block assists.
Bridgewater retained a steady pace throughout the entire match. The team pulled away late in the first set, going on a 7-0 rally after being down 17-14 to take a 21-17 lead. The rally included three kills from Rachel Gaston.
The Eagles fell behind early in the second set, and were never able to recover, totaling 11 errors in the set.
Bridgewater produced its best game in the third set with 13 kills on just five errors and limiting Roanoke to 13 points on seven kills. The Eagles rode the serve of Frey, who had two service aces in the set, to a 13-4 lead.
In the fourth set, it was a back-and-fourth affair as back-to-back Bridgewater errors brought Roanoke within one point, making it 13-12. A kill by Deja Booker and a service ace from Girard made it 15-12. Two more service aces from Frey gave BC a 19-14 edge, and the team held the lead, winning the set 25-20.
The Eagles are back on the court tomorrow at Hollins with a tri-match starting at 11:00 a.m. The team will face off against Hollins and John Wesley for a full day of action.
