Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match, Improves to 11-1

Roanoke, Va. – The Bridgewater College Volleyball team improved to 11-1 on the year after sweeping the tri-match at Hollins Saturday afternoon.

Match One: Bridgewater 3, Hollins 0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-16)

Carleigh Studtmann and Deja Booker led the offensive attack. Studtmann had 10 kills and hit .611 while Booker had 10 kills and hit .529.

Victoria Wilson led all players with 23 assists. She also had ten digs to go along with eight kills.

Rachael Girard had 13 assists and contributed two service aces. Macon Frey added 11 digs.

For Hollins, Carlie Vollmers led the team with six kills.

The Eagles were dominant throughout the entire match, winning the first two sets by a double digit margin. In the first set they were a force offensively, racking up 21 kills compared to Hollins' seven kills.

Bridgewater took the second set easily, going on a 6-0 rally late in the set to take a 20-6 lead. Hollins made it a bit closer in the third set, but their seven errors essentially sealed their fate and Bridgewater won the final set 25-16.

Match Two: Bridgewater 3, John Wesley 0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-20)

In the second match against John Wesley, Rachel Gaston paced the team with 12 kills to go along with eight digs and three block assists.

Taylor Sale added seven kills, while Allison Clark had five. Rachael Girard came up with 12 assists and four service aces. Taylor McNeely led the team in digs with 12.

The Eagles ran away with the first set, scoring seven straight points to end the set, which included two service aces from Rachael Girard.

Bridgewater controlled the second set with no issues, but the game was back-and-fourth in the third set until three straight errors from John Wesley and a service ace from Emily Hanger gave the Eagles the five-point win.

Bridgewater will return home for a competition against Christopher Newport on Wednesday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m.
