WINCHESTER, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's golf team showed its depth with two teams opening play at the Green Turtle / Shenandoah University Invitational.
Bridgewater sits seventh out of 14 teams with a first day score of 313. The Eagles' B team actually played ahead of the A team for most of the round, and is tied for ninth with a 316.
Ocean Armstrong (73, tied for sixth) and Luke Hill (74, tied for ninth) led the way for BC.
Armstrong birdied both par-5s on the front nine (#2 and #6) for a blistering 2-under at the turn. Hill also had two birdies on the front nine (#4 and #9) and highlighted his round with an eagle on the par-5 15th.
The next four best scores came from B team players, including Jake Norby's 76. Norby had three birdies- on the par-4 3rd and 10th holes and the par-5 15th. He is tied for 18th place overall in the 77-player field.
Jacob Czerwinski (79) and Eugene Dillon (80) also could have provided BC's third varsity score. Czerwinsky birdied #8, #11 and #17, while Dillon recorded 10 pars.
Ronald Uszenski's 81 for the B team, including a birdie on the par-4 9th hole, also matched the Bridgewater A team's third-best score.
That A team golfer was Jason Spaar, whose round of 81 included five pars on the front nine and a birdie on the par-5 15th.
Also competing for the A team was Jeremy Pannebaker (85) and Matthew Padgett (91). The B team also featured Matthew Sengul (87).
Play will conclude tomorrow, with Hampden-Sydney (288) leading the team competition by 12 strokes.
