Volleyball Hits 20 Win Mark

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team earned wins 19 and 20 after sweeping Randolph and Guilford at an ODAC Quad-Match on Saturday.

Game One: Bridgewater 3, Randolph 0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-17)

The first set between the Eagles and WildCats was tight from start to finish. The score was 24-23 when Deja Booker put down a kill to give the Eagles a one set advantage.

Bridgewater gained a slight lead in set two and was able to hold on for a 25-21 win on a Nadia Valle kill.

The Eagles broke away in the third and gained a seven-point lead behind a service run from Jenna Hamra. Rachel Gaston and Madison Haynes both put down kills to make the score 23-15. Two Randolph service errors gave the Eagles the set and the match.

Gaston had a team high 13 kills while contributing 11 digs. Hamra led the team with 13 digs while Victoria Wilson notched 31 assists.

Game Two: Bridgewater 3, Guilford 0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-21)

Bridgewater's jumped out to an early 13-4 lead in set one thanks to their offense and several Quaker errors. Guilford stayed around to put the score at 24-20 until a Quaker attack error gave the Eagles the set.

Taylor McNeely started off set two with a nine point service run. The Eagles maintained that strong start for their most convincing set win of the match, gaining a 2-0 advantage.

The Quakers took an early lead in set three and were up 8-4 at one point. Bridgewater stayed focused and took back the momentum at 18-13 behind two kills from Allison Clark and more Quaker attack errors. Deja Booker finished the set for the second time in one day on a kill to give the Eagles the match.

Gaston led with a match high nine kills followed by Clark with eight. Gaston also contributed 17 digs. Victoria Wilson moved closer to 2,000 assists adding 29 in the match. She currently has 1,906 assists.

With the two wins, the Eagles moves to 20-5 on the season. Bridgewater returns to action on Tuesday, October 23, as they make to trip to Emory & Henry for a 7 p.m. match.
