Volleyball Completes Conference Play With Win Over Royals

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team closed out the ODAC regular season with a 3-0 win over Eastern Menonnite on Friday night. The Eagles honored their senior student-athletes Deja Booker, Jenna Hamra, and Victoria Wilson before the match along with senior managers Ashley Crickenberger and Kalli Walling.

Bridgewater jumped out to an early 4-0 in lead in set one with a Taylor McNeely service ace and kills from Allison Clark and Madison Haynes. The Royals tied it up 4-4 until the Eagles  stormed out in front to take the lead. Wilson found her sweet spot with back-to-back setter kills before a Royal attack error ended set one.

The second set resembled the first as the Eagles controlled throughout. Rachel Gaston came alive at the end of the set, recording three kills. Deja Booker made the most of her senior night and ended the set on a kill to put the Eagles up two sets to none.

The Eagles ran away with the third and held EMU to just eight points. Gaston stepped up again in third where she recorded six total kills. Lindsay Olzawski ended the match with a kill to give the Eagles the win. With the win, Bridgewater has not lost a set on their home court since September 1st and has locked up the third seed in the ODAC Tournament.

Gaston led the team with a match high 11 kills and 14 digs. Clark matched that match high with 11 kills of her own. Deja Booker contributed eight kills in her final ODAC regular season contest. McNeely continued to control the back line with 13 digs while adding four aces. Victoria Wilson recorded 34 assists as she moves closer to 2,000 career assists. The senior has racked up 1,974 in her career so far.

Bridgewater returns to the court tomorrow, October 26, for a tri-match featuring St. Mary's (Md.) and Lebanon Valley. The Eagles face the Seahawks at 11 a.m. and the Dutchmen at 3 p.m. The Eagles now wait for the rest of the conference to finish regular season action to determine who they will host in the first round of the ODAC Tournament on October 31.
