Wasps Pull Away From Eagles In Second Half

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Emory & Henry used an 11-3 run early in the second half to push the lead to double figures and the Wasps pulled away down the stretch to defeat Bridgewater 78-56 Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles trailed by four at the half, 39-35, and pulled to within a single point, 39-38, early in the second half when Jimmie Sanders made 1-of- 2 at the foul line and Davrion Grier scored on a driving layup.

The Wasps scored the next five points to lead by six, 44-38, before Josh Cammon drove the baseline for a bucket to pull the Eagles to within 44-40. Alic Wynn powered inside for a three-point play to put E&H up by seven, but the Eagles stayed close and trailed by five when Matthew Ciccone worked inside for a bucket, making the score 47-42.

E&H scored the next six points to push their lead to double figures, 53-42, but Cammon knocked down a 3-pointer from the corner to cut the margin down to eight, 53-45, with 13:48 left in the game.

Andrew Davis then worked inside for a bucket and Daniel Spencer scored from long range to put the Wasps ahead by 13 points, 58-45, at the 12:53 mark.

Emory & Henry led by double figures the rest of the way and left Nininger Hall with the 78-56 ODAC victory.

Grier led the Eagles with 16 points and nine rebounds while Cammon finished with 14 points.

All five E&H starters reached double figures with Tharon Suggs leading the team with 19 points. Wynn posted a double-double for the Wasps with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Bridgewater is back in action Wednesday evening when the Eagles host Randolph-Macon.
