BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Bridgewater College men's golf team recovered from a slow start at the VSGA State Intercollegiate on Monday, and will look to make a charge in the final round.

The Eagles came in 29th in the nation in scoring and hoping to make waves before national rankings come out Thursday. Starting on holes #4-#6, most of the team got off to a slow start in the colder weather however, and the round of 305 was nine strokes above Bridgewater's average for the season.

Ronald Uszenski felt better this week after some injury struggles and had five birdies en route to a 72, tying his low round of the season. He made birdie on three of the four par-fives and on a pair of par-4s (#6 and #8).

Jason Spaar got under par immediately with a birdie on #5, and finished with a three-over 75.

Alex Czerwinski, Jacob Laughlin and Brendan Draughn (playing as an individual) all shot 79 on the day.

Laughlin made consecutive birdies on #18 and then #1 late in his round. Czerwinski dealt with several tough recoveries around the green and still birdied two holes en route to playing the back-nine at just one-over par. On the other hand, Draughn was just +1 on the entire front nine.

Jacob Sears rounded out the team with an 81.

The Eagles are in eighth place, 23 shots behind Lynchburg- who shot 18 strokes better than their average.

"The guys are off to a great start this season, and they have been hoping their hard work will be reflected in the national rankings, but today was not quite what we were looking for," said head coach John Rogers. "That's the nature of sports, and definitely the way golf goes, so we'll see if we can make a charge tomorrow."
