LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team lost a five set heartbreaker (18-25, 25-22, 16-25, 25-21, 7-15) to conference foe Guilford on Friday evening at Randolph College.

The Quakers came out strong, hitting a .371 in the first set compared to the Eagles. 195. Bridgewater bounced back from the first set defeat to take the second set. Rachel Gaston ended the second with one of six kills from the set.

Guilford controlled set three to take a 2-1 edge. Bridgewater responded with a gritty fourth set win and held off a Quaker comeback to push a fifth and deciding set.

The Eagles struggled in the fifth and found themselves down 8-0. An Emily Hanger kill jump started Bridgewater and provided the spark for three straight Eagle stuff blocks to make the score 12-7. The comeback charge would not be enough though, as Guilford would score the next three points to earn the win. 

Grace Hayes played a complete match for the Eagles with 34 assists, six kills and 10 digs. Gaston had 13 kills and 26 digs. Lisa O'Grady provided 11 kills while Taylor McNeely had 27 digs.

This is the Eagles second straight loss, moving them to 19-4 overall and 7-2 in conference play. It is a quick turnaround for the team as they face Randolph College tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
