Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College softball team moved to 12-4 with Friday's sweep of Southern Virginia.

Game 1: Bridgewater 7, Southern Virginia 0

Sydney Layman started off the Eagles four-run second inning with a big triple to right field. She'd be sent home on an error after Lindsey's Talley hit to the third baseman for a 1-0 lead. Freshman Kaitlyn Tirona hit a 2 RBI single for a 3-0 lead with only one out. Sarah Wimer then picked up a single to load to bases for Mikaila Guard. Guard followed suit and hit a single of her own as Stephanie Carroll ran home for a 4-0 lead.

Bridgewater added two more runs in the fourth as Taylor Novak and Carroll each picked up an RBI with the bases loaded. The Eagles scored one more run in the sixth when Morgan Landes ran home on a Knight error for the 7-0 advantage.

The home team totaled ten hits in the game, led by Tirona, Wimer, and Layman with two each. Tirona also added two RBIs. Guard also achieved a milestone as she hit her 100th career ball.

Brooke Louden continued her great start to the season, pitching all seven innings and allowing four hits.

Game Two: Bridgewater 4, Southern Virginia 1

Bridgewater got on the board first again with a strong first inning. Katrina Martin hit a double to bring Carroll home for a 1-0 lead before Victoria Gontarz added two RBIs of her own to send Martin and Wimer home.

The Knights got on the board for their first and only run of the day in the third on an RBI single.

The Eagles had a great game in the field as they committed zero errors, featuring great defensive plays from Torie Shifflett at second and Katie Merhout in right field.

Bridgewater added one more run to create a comfortable lead in the sixth thanks to a Merhout RBI double to center field to send Gontarz home.

Gontarz led the Eagles with three hits and two RBIs. Merhout added two hits and a RBI.

Carolyn Cambell picked up the win after pitching all seven innings. The senior allowed five hits and one run.

Bridgewater, now 12-4, starts ODAC play on March 20 with a doubleheader against Randolph starting at 2:00 p.m.
