No. 6 W&L Blanks Eagles

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - No. 6 Washington and Lee put two goals on the board in the first half Friday afternoon and the Generals went on to blank Bridgewater College, 4-0, in the conference opener for both squads.

The contest was the second straight for the Eagles against a team ranked inside the Top 10 in the national poll. This past Saturday, the Eagles dropped a 2-0 decision to Johns Hopkins, ranked No. 5 in the nation at the time.

Generals' leading scorer Michael Kutsanzira gave the visitors the lead in the 20th minute. The W&L first-year forward cut past two defenders and finished to the far post for a 1-0 lead.

Washington and Lee (6-1 overall, 1-0 in the ODAC) added its second goal in the 37th minute. George Biddle crossed the ball into the box from the left side and Samuel Bass volleyed the ball into the back of the net, making the score 2-0.

The lead increased to 3-0 on an Eagles' own goal early in the second half. W&L added is final goal in the 63rd minute when Harry Barringer topped his shot into the net off a cross from the left side from Connor Wharton, pushing the margin to 4-0.

Bridgewater finished the contest with four shots. Alex Martinez and Matthew Pagano each put a shot on goal for the Eagles.

The Generals took 19 total shots, including seven on goal. W&L held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Bridgewater, now 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the ODAC, returns to action Wednesday when the Eagles host rival Eastern Mennonite. The matchup is a non-conference contest that will not count in the ODAC standings.
