BUENA VISTA, Va. - Rachel Gaston and Lisa O'Grady each hit 14 kills to lead Bridgewater to a 3-1 victory over Southern Virginia. 

Bridgewater jumped out to a big start behind a service run from Taylor McNeely. Southern Virginia found their rhythm and tied the set at 9-9 and then took a two-point lead at 11-9. A service error gave the ball back to Eagles and they took advantage. From there, Bridgewater maintained control and won the set 25-19 on a Hope Jennings kill.

The Eagles totaled 13 total kills in the second, including four from O'Grady. After gaining the edge, the Knights closed in and were only two points away from tying the set. Gaston put down a kill to separate Bridgewater and put them up 16-13. Southern Virginia would only score three points before Sarah Kerns sealed the set with a kill. 

Southern Virginia played their best set of the night in the third, winning 25-17. The Knights hit a .114, their best hitting percentage of the night, and held the Eagles to a .097, their worst of the evening. 

Bridgewater bounced back in the fourth to hit a .333, their best hitting percentage of the evening. Every point seemed to go the Eagles way, thanks in part to a strong service game. O'Grady capped off her career-high evening with a kill to end the match.

Taylor McNeely had a team and match high 16 digs and four service aces. In addition to her 14 kills, Gaston also picked up 15 digs while contributing to three blocks. Jyaliah Friendly also had double digit digs with ten.  O'Grady shined from the right side, hitting a .370. Grace Hayes had 36 assists.

With the win, Bridgewater moves to 13-0 for one of the best starts in program history. The team will travel to Averett University tomorrow to take on the Cougars and Maryville College in a tri-match. Bridgewater will play Maryville at 1:00 p.m. and Averett at 3:00 p.m.
