Hot-Shooting Eagles Outscore E&H, 109-90

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College had one of its best shooting games of the season Saturday afternoon and outpaced Emory & Henry 109-90 in ODAC action at Nininger Hall.

The Eagles made 40-of-70 shots from the floor (57.1 percent) and 14-of-24 from 3-point range (58.2 percent) to crack the century mark for the second time this season.

Chandler Murray led the Eagles with 31 points, his third 30-point outing of the season. Davrion Grier added 22 points and TJ Turner came off the bench to score 16. Jalil Langston chipped in with 11 points and Monte Simpkins added 10.

Colin Molden paced the Wasps with 35 points. Micah Banks, Anthony Williams, Dylan Catron and Kevin Rodriguez finished with 12 points apiece.

The Eagles began to inch away from the Wasps midway through the first half, leading by nine, 33-24, on a 3-pointer by Murray with 9:08 on the clock.

A 3-pointer by Rodriguez had Emory & Henry within four, 35-31, but a 10-1 spurt by the Eagles pushed the margin to double figures for the first time. Simpkins was fouled on a 3-point attempt and made all three foul shots and a layup by Langston made the score 40-32. Grier knocked down a 3-pointer and Langston scored after grabbing an offensive rebound to put the Eagles up 45-32 with 5:16 left in the first half.

The Wasps trimmed the margin back to seven, 47-40, on a layup by Molden, but Turner hit a 3-pointer and Grier added four quick points to put the Eagles up 54-40. The Wasps scored the final four points of the half to trail by 10 points, 54-44, at the break.

A 3-pointer by Catron early in the second half pulled E&H to within eight, 59-51, but five straight points by Murray and a free throw by Grier moved the margin back to 14, 65-51.

The Eagles kept the margin in double digits and a three-point play by Grier with 12:49 left made the score 77-60. Bridgewater continued to control play and a 3-ball by Murray pushed the margin to 20 points, 101-81, with 4:44 remaining in the game.

Saturday's victory snapped the Eagles' eight-game losing streak. Bridgewater is now 7-15 overall and 3-10 in the conference. The Eagles will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to Lynchburg, Va. to play Randolph College.
