HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Bridgewater College swept doubles play to jump out to a 3-0 lead Sunday and the Eagles continued to control play in singles to take an 8-1 victory over Drew University.
Rachel Crawford and Malena Hoover took an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles for the first point of the match. Ali Keister and Alexia Will made it 2-0 with an 8-3 win at the No. 3 slot. Bridgewater's Whitney Kiser and Nicole Shifflett completed the sweep, battling to an 8-6 win in the No. 1 doubles match.
Shifflett was the first off the court in singles as she downed Sanne Bloemendaal 6-0, 6-0 to win at No. 2. Crawford scored the clinching team point with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Drew's Maria Navas Espinal at the No. 3 slot.
The Eagles added wins at No. 5, No. 4 and No. 6 singles. Hoover took the point at No. 5, outlasting Danielle DelRosso in split sets 4-6, 6-4, 10-2 in the decidng tiebreaker. Emily Daigneault added a point for the Eagles at the No. 4 slot with a 7-6, 6-3 win. Keister outlasted Christina Christodoulou 6-4, 7-5 to win at No. 6.
Drew took its lone point at No. 1 where Ashley Camel stopped Kiser 6-3, 6-4.
