Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - The Bridgewater College softball team defeated Adrian College and Ohio Northern on day two of their spring break trip in Florida.
Game One: BC 6, Adrian 5
After falling behind 3-0, the Eagles got on the board after the Bulldog's pitcher walked Brooklynn Fridley with the bases loaded to score Torie Shifflett. Adrian then walked Katrina Martin on the next at bat with the bases still loaded to make it 3-2.
Adrian added a run in both the fifth and the sixth, giving them the 5-2 edge. The Eagles were not ready to give up just yet as Martin hit an RBI single to bring Avery Pinder home and bring Bridgewater within two runs.
Brook Louden hit a single on the next bat to advance Martin to second. Sarah Wimer stepped up and hit a 2 RBI double to center field to tie the game at 5-5. The Eagles solidifed the comeback win when Jezreel Chitty, who was brought in to pinch run for Wimer, stole home on a passed ball.
Torie Shifflett led the Eagles with two hits while Martin and Wimer had two RBIs each.
Emily Clifford pitched five innings, allowing six hits and four runs. Kathryn Thomas earned the win in her first collegiate appearance in the circle, allowing one run and one hit. Fellow freshman Brantley Swift picked up the save in one inning of relief.
Game Two: BC 10, Ohio Northern 5
Ohio Northern got on the board first with one run in bottom of the first.
The Eagles bats came alive in the third inning, kickstarted by a Sydney Layman triple to right field. After Martin was walked leaving runners on the corners, Kaitlyn Tirona hit a 2 RBI double to center field to send both Layman and Martin home and make it 2-1.
Bridgewater strung together a six-run inning in the top fifth, highlighted by four stolen bases.
The Polar Bears added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the Eagles answered in the top of the sixth with a Shifflett double to left center field. After Ohio Northern walked Marlee Carroll, Stephanie Carroll hit a two RBI double to left field to make it 10-4.
Ohio Northern scored one more run in the top of the seventh, but it would not be enough to take away the Eagles second victory of the day.
Stephanie Carroll led Bridgewater with three hits and two RBIs. Layman and Wimer had two hits and two RBIs each while Tirona had three RBIs.
Brooke Louden pitched five innings, allowing six hits and four runs. Swift pitched the remaining two innings, allowing three hits and one run.
Bridgewater returns tomorrow for games against Bluffton and New England College.
