Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. - A balanced attack and scrappy defense helped propel the Bridgewater College volleyball team to a 3-1 ODAC victory over Shenandoah on Friday night on Winchester.
The Eagle outsider hitters led the way for Bridgewater with both attackers posting double-doubles. Ashley Casey had a team-high 13 kills to go with a career-high 19 digs, while Hope Jennings had 12 kills and 10 digs.
After a slow start in the first set, Bridgewater turned it around in the second set holding the Hornets to their lowest hitting percentage of the night with a .114.
The Eagles had their best showing in set three where they put down 19 kills with just three errors. The fourth frame was tight to the 20-point mark until a five-point Jennings service run pushed the Eagles to victory.
Adding to the balanced attack were middles Ann-Marie Johnson with nine kills and Lauren Nofsinger with eight. Lisa O'Grady had seven kills. Ashley Rutherford posted a career-high 35 assists with 16 digs for the third BC double-double of the night, while Grace Williams had 16 digs.
Bridgewater now holds a 35-6 all-time record over Shenandoah. The Eagles move to 6-7 on the year and 3-2 in the ODAC. They will travel to Roanoke on Wednesday for a key early season ODAC battle with the Maroons. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
