DANVILLE, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team dropped a close four set match to Averett on Friday night in Danville.

The Basics

• Final Score: Averett 3, Bridgewater 1 (20-25, 22-25, 25-23, 21-25)
• Records: Bridgewater (9-9), Averett (16-5)

How It Happened

• After falling behind early, the Eagles took the lead at 10-7 in set one until the Cougars tied at it 12-12. Averett controlled the momentum the remainder of the set to take a 1-0 edge
• The teams played point-for-point in the second frame with an Ashley Casey kill making it 22-23, Cougar up by one. An Averett kill and an Eagle error gave Averett the 2-0 advantage
• Bridgewater jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the third frame and were able to hold off a Cougar comeback to push a fourth set
• The Eagles never led in the fourth set, ultimately falling 3-1 to the home Cougars

Match Notes

• Jessica Bissmeyer recorded her second straight double-double with a match-high 13 kills to go with 13 digs
• Casey had eight kills while Ashley Rutherford and Grace Williams both recorded 12 digs
• Grace Hayes had 38 assists to move her career total to 1,959 assists
• Ann-Marie Johnson contributed to six blocks
