Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team swept host Hood College on Friday night in Maryland to begin a weekend roadtrip in the Old Line State.
Bridgewater came out strong in the set one holding Hood to a negative hitting percentage. An eight-point service run from Grace Hayes took the set from 9-6 to 15-6. The Eagles did not let off the gas and cruised to the 25-13 set win that ended on a Sarah Kerns kill.
Set two saw seven lead changes in a point-for-point battle that ended on a Kerns service ace for the 30-28 set win to put the Eagles up 2-0.
Hood came out determined in set three, taking a 8-5 edge. A five-point Grace Williams service run turned the momentum around for Bridgewater to take a 10-8 lead. With the lead secured, Bridgewater did not look back only letting the Blazers come within two points the remainder of the set as the Eagles took the 25-19 set win and the sweep.
Lisa O'Grady had a match-high 14 kills to go with four blocks. Hayes ran a balanced offense with Jessica Bissmeyer posting seven kills, Ann-Marie Johnson recording seven and Lauren Nofsinger with six. Bissmeyer added 16 digs while Hayes had 35 assists and 10 digs for a double-double.
The Eagles, now 8-7 on the year, return to action tomorrow when they take on Goucher College in Baltimore. Match time is set for 12:00 p.m.
