BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team defeated Lynchburg 3-1 in the ODAC quarterfinals on Wednesday night in Nininger Hall. The wins advances Bridgewater to the semifinal round of the tournament.

The Basics

• Final Score: Bridgewater 3, Lynchburg 1 (25-17, 18-25, 25-16, 25-18)
• Records: Bridgewater (14-12, 7-4 ODAC), Lynchburg (11-12, 7-4 ODAC)

How It Happened 

• In an as headlined fashion, the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds traded points to start match. A six-point service run from Madeline Walker put the Eagles out in front 16-10 and the home team never looked back
• Lynchburg came back to set two and tie the match at 1-1
• Ann-Marie Johnson put on a show in set three, recording five kills and three blocks to help shift the momentum and give Bridgewater a 2-1 advantage
• The Eagles started set four taking a 7-2 lead behind two service aces from Ashley Casey. The Hornets made it interesting, coming within one point at 14-13. The home crowd proved to be a key factor in pushing the Eagles to the final points. Rachael Meyers and Lisa O'Grady sealed the victory on back-to-back kills. 

Match Notes

• Casey, Jessica Bissmeyer, Johnson all had ten kills for Bridgewater
• Bissmeyer posted 30 digs followed by Casey with 17 for two Bridgewater double-doubles
• Walker added 16 digs in the libero jersey while Grace Hayes had 37 assists

• With the win, Bridgewater advances to the semifinals on Friday where they will face Washington & Lee in Lexington. Game time is to be determined.
