Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. - Washington and Lee scored two goals in the first eight minutes Thursday afternoon and the Generals went on to post a 4-1 win over Bridgewater College in ODAC men's soccer action.
The Generals took the lead just 2:09 into the first half when Samuel Bass took a pass from Nick St. Pierre and scored on a low shot to the right side of the goal to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, St. Pierre found the back of the net, making the score 2-0.
Bridgewater worked back into contention with a goal in the 36th minute. Sam Franklin pushed the ball ahead to Alex Martinez who touched a pass to his left for Matthew Shelor. Shelor was 1-on-1 with the the W&L keeper and his shot inside the near post pulled the Eagles to within 2-1.
The Generals regained a two-goal advantage when John Peterson scored from 15 yards out in the final minute of the first half, giving W&L a 3-1 lead at the break.
Bass scored his second goal of the day in the 86th minute for the final 4-1 margin.
After holding just an 8-5 margin in total shots in the first half, the Generals outshot the Eagles 10-3 in the second half for an 18-8 overall advantage.
The Eagles, now 1-2-2 overall and 0-2-2 in the ODAC, return to action Saturday afternoon when they host Ferrum College. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
