Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team fell in five sets to the visiting Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College on Friday evening in Nininger Hall.
The teams were evenly matched throughout the early frames with the score tied at 12 in the first. The Yellow Jackets broke the set open with a strong offensive push and continued on to take the first set 25-19.
Bridgewater responded out of the gate and controlled the second set from start to finish. The Eagles topped the Yellow Jackets all night with their energy and used a Jessica Bissmeyer kill to even the match.
The Eagles earned their most impressive set win in the third behind a ten-point service run from Ashley Casey. Lisa O'Grady put the Eagles up a set in the match with one of her match-high 15 kills. Bridgewater out hit Randolph-Macon convincely in both the second and third sets.
The fourth set proved to the be the tighest of the evening with both teams having a chance to win the set. Tied at 20-20, the Eagles made costly errors that led to the Yellow Jackets gaining the momentum to take the set and push the match to a fifth and final set.
The visitors controlled the fifth frame and escaped Nininger Hall with the 3-2 win.
O'Grady hit a .235 to go with her match-high 15 kills. Hope Jennings was also in double-digits for the Eagles with 12 kills. Jyailah Friendly notched a career-high 29 digs and was all over the floor for the Eagles. Casey and Bissmeyer recorded 16 and 13 digs respectively. Grace Hayes had 38 assists and 12 digs for her second double-doubel of the season.
Bridgewater returns to action next weekend when they travel to Roanoke for a tri-match with the Maroons and Shenandoah.
