Late Goal Lifts Eagles Into 1-1 Tie With Marlins

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Bridgewater College scored the tying goal with less than one minute left in regulation Thursday evening and the Eagles and Virginia Wesleyan finished the ODAC men's soccer contest tied at 1-1.

After a scoreless first half, the match remained scoreless until the 77th minute when Scott Signorelli scored on a low shot to the left side of the goal for a 1-0 Marlins lead.

The Marlins were on the verge of claiming an ODAC victory when Bridgewater's Kalefa Boyar scored on a low shot with just 26 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. Sam Beckman had the assist on the tying goal.

Virginia Wesleyan applied some pressure on the Eagles' defense in the overtime periods as the Marlins held a 6-2 edge in shots.

For the game, the Marlins held a 22-15 edge in overall shots, including an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Virginia Wesleyan also had a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.

Tyler Deutsch played the entire game in goal for the Eagles and finished with six saves. Matthew Shelor was active on offense as he finished with four shots, inclduing two on goal for the Eagles.

Bridgewater is back in action next Thursday when the Eagles travel to Harrisonburg to face Esatern Mennonite in a non-conference matchup.
